Fit comes before a long feature list
Garmin lists 43 × 43 × 11.6 mm and 39 grams for the 165, versus 46.1 × 46.1 × 12.9 mm and 47 grams for the 265. The stated wrist circumferences are 126–203 and 135–205 mm respectively.
Start with the correct model variant
Check both Music and any S in the product name when considering an offer. Controlling music on a phone is different from storing audio on the watch.
Music on the move: are you taking your phone?
The standard 165 lets you control music playing on your paired phone. Leaving that phone at home and listening from the watch is a different use case: the 265 can play preloaded audio through paired Bluetooth earbuds or headphones.
According to Garmin, your own audio files require a computer with Garmin Express and the USB cable. To download from a supported music service, first link that provider to the watch and connect the watch to Wi-Fi. Before buying, check whether your music service is supported and which account or subscription conditions apply.
Load music onto the watch before setting off and check your Bluetooth earbuds. If you are taking your phone anyway, separate music storage may offer little extra practical value.
GPS features do not establish a measured winner
Garmin lists multi-band GPS for the 265. Without comparative route measurements, this does not establish a proven accuracy improvement on a particular running route in the Netherlands.
Compare battery life in the same mode
In GPS-only mode, Garmin states up to 19 hours for the 165 and 20 hours for the 265. Other satellite modes, music and display settings affect runtime; these figures are not our own measurements.

Does Garmin Pay work with every Dutch bank card?
No. Garmin refers to a bank list with country and card-type filters and warns that not every card from a participating bank is supported. Check the exact Dutch card before buying.
Which major Dutch banks does Garmin mention?
Garmin’s Dutch explanation mentions ING, ABN AMRO and Rabobank. This does not confirm support for every payment or business card; current card support remains decisive.
Can a Rabobank customer use Garmin Pay?
Rabobank describes Garmin Pay for a suitable Garmin watch. Check with the bank whether the specific payment card can be linked; a physical card supporting contactless payments is not proof in itself.
Does a Dutch 165 offer automatically include offline Spotify?
No. The standard 165 and 165 Music are different versions. Garmin’s Dutch music explanation describes downloads through supported music services with the required accounts; check both the variant and the subscription conditions.
What delivery threshold does Garmin show for the Netherlands?
Garmin’s Dutch site lists free delivery from €30. That store condition applies to Garmin itself and does not confirm the delivery charges of an Amazon.nl seller.
What to weigh up before buying
The standard 165 suits those who find the more compact version and phone music controls sufficient. The 265 is worth comparing if multi-band GPS and audio on the watch are needed; anyone wanting a smaller case should assess the 265S separately. First check support for your own payment card if paying with the watch matters to your choice.
